It would seem that what is common between a semi-handicraft repair shop and the flagship of the Ukrainian jewelry industry -? It turned out that they are united by the most “blood” ties.
If we delve into the history of the company, the logical chain will lead us to the distant 1936, it was then, in Kiev, that an ordinary workshop for repairing watch mechanisms and restoring jewelry was opened, which over time transformed into the “Kiev Jewelry and Watch Factory”, and subsequently - "Kiev Jewelry Factory" (KYUZ).
Today the company is distinguished by its enormous production capacity, based on modern technological facilities, the timely and phased reconstruction of which was carried out over several years. Modernization of production, introduction of computer technologies, such as 3D prototyping, design - have opened up new, unique horizons for fruitful creative work.
Silver USSR (Kyiv Jewelry Factory)
During tsarist times, Kyiv had the status of the largest jewelry center in Ukraine. In 1913, there were many jewelry workshops and shops in the city; almost all of them were located on Khreshchatyk. The change in the political regime had a negative impact on the development of jewelry art in Ukraine. In the city and throughout Ukraine there was no educational institution where one could obtain a specialty as a jeweler.
During the military dictatorship, perhaps only the security officers were interested in jewelry, confiscating their wealth from the “undercut” bourgeoisie. Jewelry firms were closed, property was nationalized, their owners were expelled from the country or emigrated. Due to great need, the Soviet government requisitioned all jewelry for the benefit of the young state. All jewelry was either melted down or sold. This was all used to purchase bread, equipment, cars...
Small artels remained in the city, which carried out repairs, remelting and manufacturing of piece goods. This continued until the 60s of the last century.
The story began at the end of the 60s of the last century. Then Kiev Jewelry was engaged in the repair of household appliances and jewelry products. Soon the plant acquired specialized equipment for making jewelry. In Kyiv, everyone used the services of this enterprise: either a watch was repaired, or a ring was reduced, or a Singer sewing machine broke, or a primus stove failed. Everything could be fixed here.
At that time, a common service was the melting of gold jewelry into new ones with payment for the work. Most citizens used gold as jewelry, so this opportunity was widespread among the population.
During Soviet times, it not only did not lose its specialization and professional personnel, but also acquired many new services, while remaining true to tradition.
Soon the enterprise was renamed the Kiev Jewelry Factory. The factory had complete production: from metal melting to polishing. It was possible to manufacture products both from catalogs and from personal sketches.
The plant mainly produced inexpensive serial products.
Jewelers have always sought to immerse themselves in the world of ancient patterns, to return to traditional materials (gold, silver) and techniques (casting, engraving, embossing, filigree, glyptic). In the mid-80s, masterpieces were created that were exhibited at international jewelry exhibitions.
Nowadays, the plant is a private enterprise and also produces jewelry.
