History of the origin of the stone
Scientists believe that vltavin is a type of volcanic glass. It is of meteorite origin and is considered the oldest representative of tektites. 15 million years ago, a meteorite fell near the Vltava River (Southern Bohemia), which caused the appearance of emerald green stones.
When the meteorite collided with the ground, an explosion occurred, causing rock and sand to melt. The sintered particles glazed, turning into minerals the color of bottle glass. Tektites are now found in different places - deep under the soil layer, in ancient river beds, in sand. What these places have in common is that they are located several hundred kilometers from the Vltava.
There is a second version, which some mineralologists adhere to. They think that this mineral appeared on the planet after alien flying vehicles landed in different places. After takeoff, the rocks in the ground melted, changed their appearance and properties, turning over time into beautiful gems.

How to distinguish an original from a fake?
Jewelry made from bottle stone is expensive because it is a rare mineral and processing takes a lot of time. Therefore, you can often stumble upon a fake. In order not to purchase an ordinary glass instead of a unique strong stone, you need to pay attention to the following details:
- Color. Moldavite always has a shade of green, if there is no green, then it is a different stone. But vltavin is not bright green, like emerald, it is more reminiscent of the color of green moss.
- Form. Even after processing, bottle stone has tubercles, and it is never completely polished and smooth.
- Structure. Most minerals have a crystalline structure, but moldavite has an amorphous structure. That is, it can turn into various forms.
- Transparency. Moldavite is never completely transparent; it always contains some inclusions of various substances.
- Place of origin. This stone has only one deposit - in the Czech Republic, so if the seller names another country, then you can be sure that it is a fake.
- Fragility. Bottlestone is quite fragile and can be scratched or chipped without much effort.
If you have doubts about the authenticity of the stone, it is better to contact a specialist. There are more chances to purchase a real mineral directly in the Czech Republic, in Prague, and besides, it costs less there. To ensure quality, you should check the certificate.
