Moldavite (vltavin) stone: properties and who is suitable according to zodiac sign

Moldavite is a stone mined on an industrial scale in just one place on Earth. In this way it resembles other rare gems - sultanite or charoite. But if the first is found only in Turkey, and the second in Yakutia, then the birthplace of moldavite is the Czech Republic.
The mineral has nothing to do with the Republic of Moldova. It has two names, both derived from the name of the Czech Vltava river in different languages. The Czechs called the stone Vltavin, and the Germans called it Moldavite (in German, the river on which Prague is located is called Moldau).

A crystal can be not just a decoration, but also a powerful amulet for those for whom it suits. Therefore, let's study its properties and compatibility with zodiac signs and characters.

Where did the mineral come from?

The history of moldavite is connected with Space. There are three versions:

  1. The meteorite crashed into the Earth at a speed of 23 kilometers per second and exploded. The released energy melted the rock. Hundreds of thousands of pieces of glass scattered over tens of kilometers around.
  2. A comet flying near the Earth did not reach its surface. Having exploded, it crumbled into fragments. Those that did not burn in the dense layers of the atmosphere fell out as green-emerald moldavites.
  3. Our planet was visited by representatives of an alien civilization. At the site where the ship landed, the earth's rock melted.

Vltavin (or moldavite) is a stone of meteorite origin.

Radiocarbon dating of the fragments showed that this happened 15 million years ago. Archaeologists are unearthing Paleolithic items made from moldavite in the Czech Republic - these are household items and jewelry.

Characteristics

Vltavin from Besednice

They are moldavites, chemically almost identical to clayey rocks, but unlike, for example, volcanic glass, they contain almost no water. Moldavite glass contains certain “defects” in the form of air bubbles, which are common mainly among the Moldovans of the Southern Bohemia. The bubbles are usually small, on the order of tenths of a millimeter, but we were also able to find bubbles longer than 1 centimeter. The pressure in these bubbles is surprisingly low, 19 to 25 times lower than sea level pressure, suggesting that moldavites originated in a lower pressure environment (such as higher layers of the atmosphere). Some moldavites even show visible traces of passage through the atmosphere in the form of aerodynamic rounding.

History of the name

The epicenter of the event (a falling meteorite, a comet explosion or the arrival of aliens) became the region between present-day Germany and the Czech Republic. Specifically, near Stuttgart, a city on the German bank of the Vltava River. The Germans call the river Moldau (Moldau). Therefore, at first the stones were called moldavites.

Moldavite

The term "vltavin" has been in use since 1891. It was invented by a journalist covering the anniversary exhibition of stones in Prague. The Czechs happily accepted the innovation.

Today there are also two names - moldavite stone and vltavin stone. They are equal.

Properties of the mineral

The Moldavites were first described at the end of the 18th century by Prague University professor Joseph Mayer. But he classified them as chrysolites of volcanic origin. Today it has been established that this is melted meteorite glass.

Other characteristics of moldavite (vltavin):

  • chemical formula – SiO2;
  • main components – silica (80%) and aluminum (10%);
  • hardness on the Mohs scale – 5.5–6.5;
  • melts at 1300 °C;
  • the range of shades is green, from the color of grass to dark green, close to black;
  • glass shine.

The last two features led to another name for moldavite – “bottle”.

Uniqueness of the stone

Moldavite has several unique features:

  1. Bubbles. This is a set of rare gases that appeared during the formation of moldavite at an altitude of 25 km above the Earth's surface.
  2. Surface heterogeneity. It is vesicular and grooved, not smooth. This creates additional iridescence of shades.
  3. Color. In structure, moldavites are typical tektites. Tektites (in ancient Greek “tektos” - molten) are melted glass agglomerates of meteorite origin. Tektites are not uncommon on Earth, but are brownish-brown or black. Only Czech specimens are green.
  4. Time of education. For moldavite it is precisely established.

For ordinary minerals, the first two factors would devalue the stone. The opposite is true for Vltavin.

Origin theory

According to the most probable theory[9][10] the Moldavites formed together with the embryos of the Rissky Crater,[11] which we find between Nuremberg, Stuttgart and Munich and in which the medieval city of Nördlingen is located. There is a crater museum in the city[12], and there is also a display case with moldavites. The entire crater is oval in shape, resembling a hexagon with rounded shapes. It passes through the center of Reese Crater. The Swabian tectonic line, which is very clearly visible in its western part. The diameter of the crater is 24 kilometers. The Rieski meteorite is estimated to have averaged about 1 kilometer. Like other impact sites, this crater is not the only one in the area (36 km to the southwest is the Steinheim Crater, 3.8 km in diameter, indicating the disintegration of one body passing through the atmosphere into two, or the flight of two bodies into the atmosphere).

In the immediate vicinity of the impact, the entire territory of Bohemia was probably covered with moldavites. (This statement does not correspond to the accumulation of moldavites in isolated areas. Rather, these were individual streams of liquid material that were sprayed in specific directions determined by the geomorphological location at the point of impact...)

Magic properties

Psychics, sorcerers, and magicians are sure: the magic of a stone that came from the depths of the Universe must be unique.

Indeed, unearthly energy determined the special magical properties of moldavite:

  • tuning into the vibrations of the Universe;
  • recharging the body with energy;
  • biofield adjustment;
  • divination and calling otherworldly entities.

Winston Churchill never parted with Vltavin. When making a decision, he “consulted” with a pebble held in his hand.

Magicians and witches wear vltavin amulets when performing risky rituals.

Therapeutic effect

The healing properties of moldavite help a person on different levels.

Improved physical condition:

  • blood pressure stabilizes, does not “jump”;
  • headache disappears;
  • vision improves;
  • the overall tone of the body increases;
  • the body rejuvenates.

The properties of Moldavite are effective for psycho-emotional healing:

  • protection against nervous breakdowns is provided;
  • sleep improves;
  • phobias and insecurities pass;
  • the ability to concentrate improves.

To ensure a quick and lasting effect, jewelry made from moldavite or stones is worn constantly.

Products with Vltavin

Several methods are suitable for treatment:

  1. Contemplation of a stone. Green color acts as a relaxant, while simultaneously mobilizing the body's reserves. The method is suitable for calming the nerves, resting the eyes, improving vision; helps with hypertension.
  2. Tactile contact. Vltavin is applied to a problem area or held in the palm of your hand for neuralgia, headaches, and muscle spasms. The effects of stress and insomnia are neutralized.
  3. Healing water. Vltavin is immersed in a container with purified or spring water for several hours or overnight. Drink charged water. It has the ability to strengthen the immune system, remove toxins and waste, and provide energy.

After any use of the stone, it must be cleaned by holding it under running water.

Vltavins (or moldavites) are considered the protective stones of Mary. This is not surprising: Maria is the most common European female name.

Jewelry assortment

The only area of application of the stone is jewelry.

Almost always, craftsmen (especially Czech ones) leave moldavites intact or lightly polish them. This is reasonable, because all the salt is in the “imperfections” of the surface. And the decoration is guaranteed to be unique.

Jewelry with stone

But vltavins are good in any form:

  • Unprocessed specimens of fancy shapes or faceted ones are framed in silver. This setting makes the warm color of moldavite even more attractive. Sometimes gold is used.
  • Small stones are used for keychains, pendants, pendants, earrings, and rings. Larger specimens are saved for beads, necklaces, and bracelets.
  • “Wrinkled” spherical moldavites are valued above others.

Vltavins (moldavites) are complemented in jewelry with local materials: garnets or Bohemian glass.

Rules of care

To preserve the appearance of moldavite, it is necessary to properly care for it, otherwise the gem will lose its magical and healing properties.

Gem care methods:

  • Rinse under running water.
  • Wrap in soft cotton cloth.
  • Fill a small jar with salt and place a package with a stone product in it.
  • Leave for 8-10 hours.

Similar cleaning is required once a month. Only in this case will moldavite be effective in all directions.

In appearance, the stone is similar to bottle glass, but at the same time it is especially popular among jewelers and consumers. There is nothing to be surprised, because the mineral makes beautiful jewelry, which is considered powerful talismans and amulets.

Where to buy jewelry

It is guaranteed that you can buy real vltavins in the Czech Republic. Residents respect their reputation, so they do not engage in counterfeiting. This applies to any store - Prague or in another large city.

Modern facts

  • In 1963, the Swiss government presented Queen Elizabeth II with a gift in honor of the tenth anniversary of her coronation - a tiara, in the center of which, surrounded by diamonds and black pearls, a raw Czech bottle stone - vltavin - modestly flaunts.
  • In the Czech Republic they produce cheese with white mold on the outside and green on the inside. It has a name - Vltavin (in honor of the amazing stone).
  • Winston Churchill always had a Vltavin in his breast pocket. And before making an important decision, he always held a magic stone in his hand.
  • There is an old tradition in the Czech Republic. Before the wedding, the groom always gives his chosen one jewelry with vltavin, which is proof of love and fidelity.
  • On their birthday, small children are given “droplets” of vltavin on their hands.

Jewelry made from moldavite (vltavina)

Vltavin, in addition to its legendary and mystical properties, has one more advantage.

Shining in all shades of green, with intricate air bubbles inside and amazing wrinkles and folds on the surface, this stone is an excellent material for creating spectacular, unique jewelry.

The Czech Republic is traditionally famous for jewelry made from local semi-precious stones. Vltavin is no exception. Jewelers, framing natural stones in exquisite silver or gold frames, create masterpieces whose fame spreads far beyond the borders of the Czech Republic.

Many travelers seek to take away vltavin (moldavite) as a souvenir of the Czech land and romantic Prague as a unique amulet or jewelry. The best workshops for making jewelry from garnet, amber and the mysterious vltavin are concentrated in Prague.

High-quality moldavite (vltavin) jewelry can only be purchased in the country of origin of the minerals. Here they are cheaper and counterfeited extremely rarely ; in the Czech Republic they treat buyers and tourists with respect. The most luxurious shops with a large selection of jewelry for every taste are located in Prague. To buy moldavite, it is better to choose a large store and, if in doubt, be sure to ask for a certificate of authenticity of the stone.

Prices in Prague for jewelry range from five euros for a pendant with a small (but unique!) Czech Vltavin stone in a simple frame to two hundred euros or more for a magnificent set of earrings and a ring. Thus, a stone weighing 22.7 grams costs about one hundred and eighty euros. On average, the cost of a small piece of jewelry with moldavite will cost thirty euros.

Cost of stone and products

It is more profitable to buy Czech stone in the Czech Republic (€):

  • the price of accessories starts from 5 (miniature Vltavin, metal frame);
  • set of jewelry with moldavites (silver) – 55+;
  • set ring + earrings with vltavin (moldavite) of the premium segment in silver – 220+;
  • untreated stone (22–24 g) – 190–210.

The average price of a small product with vltavin (moldavite) in the Czech Republic is 30–35 €.

The cost of the mineral in Russian online stores (thousand rubles):

  • faceted moldavites (3.1–5.2 carats) – 16–17;
  • untreated moldavites (2–7 g – 3.5–13.5;
  • silver pendant – 6.5–9.5;
  • silver ring with moldavite – 13–18.

Often the origin of the stone is indicated in the description, but it doesn’t hurt to request a certificate.

How to spot a fake

Most often, bottle glass is offered instead of vltavin (moldavite). The origin can be identified by the following characteristics:

  • Vltavin does not look particularly bright;
  • the natural mineral is usually mossy green;
  • due to internal amorphousness, the surface is not perfectly smooth; this characteristic makes it possible to distinguish vltavin from other minerals in jewelry;
  • There are only a few perfectly transparent specimens of vltavin (moldavite), and more often than not this characteristic means a fake.

Even though it is fused glass, it does not heat up quickly in your hands.

Only Czech vltavin (moldavite) is considered authentic.

Scope of application

Currently, moldavite is used exclusively in the jewelry industry. Craftsmen use stones in their original form, occasionally slightly polishing them. Thus, each piece of jewelry is one of a kind. No conveyor belt.

Small stones are used as inserts in earrings, rings, pendants, and as pendants on key chains. Larger samples are used to collect necklaces, beads, and bracelets.

The spherical and most “wrinkled” specimens are most valued.

Moldavite and Zodiac

The “homeland” of the alien from the depths of Space is unknown. Therefore, astrologers do not calculate the zodiac signs for which it is suitable according to the horoscope.

It is believed that this does not matter for the mineral; moldavites (vltavines) patronize everyone:

  • Sagittarius, Virgo, Cancer will achieve peace and inner harmony with them;
  • Libra and Aquarius will rediscover themselves;
  • For Aries, Taurus, Gemini and Capricorn, stones will help awaken intuition;
  • Leos will lead better with them.

The gem is limitedly suitable for mystically minded Pisces and Scorpios prone to black magic. By manipulating moldavite, they will easily fall into an altered state of consciousness.
