Tengizite is a rare mineral of technogenic origin, formed as a result of an explosion at an oil production station. The only field is located in Kazakhstan, next to an exploded oil well. The stone has a unique composition. In less than half a century of existence, it has acquired legends and superstitions. Even the unofficial names of the breed are appropriate: “dragon glass”, “frozen fire”, “drop of the fiery sea”.
Most Tengizites are blue-blue in color. The rich hue, subtle patterns and beautiful vitreous luster make the stone one of the most coveted collectible materials.
The Tengiz field does not exceed 100 meters in diameter. There are no other sources, world reserves of tengizite are negligible
Due to the rarity of the stone, not everyone gets access to authentic samples. Fraudsters often sell shaitanite, obsidian and other rocks of natural origin under the guise of a man-made mineral. But those who are lucky enough to get real “dragon glass” get a truly unique thing.
What is sun stone
Sunstone is a semi-precious mineral. Its scientific name is heliolite. It belongs to the feldspars. Among the nuggets there are jewelry and non-jewelry types.
The appearance of the gem lives up to its name. It is not always yellow, but all shades have a golden tint. In most cases, many sparkling particles are visible inside the stone. Some specimens have a pronounced cat's eye effect.
The gems are transparent or translucent: they transmit light well and look especially advantageous in the sun.
A real sunstone is heliolite. But some other minerals are also popularly called this:
- Aventurine. Cherry, red, yellow or green opaque mineral. Has a shimmering effect thanks to scattered inclusions.
- Andesine. Translucent yellow, red, orange, white or greenish gems. Covered with brighter stains.
- Labrador. A mineral that combines many shades. It has a bright red gold color.
- Microcline. Light orange mineral with brownish inclusions. There is a slight flicker.
- Oligoclase. A rare gem that has a high level of light refraction. There are both transparent and opaque minerals.
- Plagioclase. Precious and semi-precious gems, usually white. Cast in red gold thanks to scattered inclusions of hematite.
- Selenite. Pale yellow mineral with a pearly sheen. Refers to limestone.
- Cornelian. The color of the nuggets varies from yellow to bright red. Interestingly, the longer it stays in the sun's rays, the brighter its shade becomes.
- Citrine. Bright yellow transparent or translucent mineral.
- Amber. The hardened resin of ancient trees is dark yellow or orange.
The minerals are called sunstones due to their similarity to heliolite shades, optical effects or the presence of sparkles. All the described gems have different chemical formulas and physical properties.
Types and colors
There are several shades of sunstone:
- red;
- yellow;
- orange;
- yellow-green;
- gray with a yellow tint.
The shades and appearance of gems vary depending on the deposits:
- Norwegian. The color ranges from brown to light yellow. There are small inclusions of hematite, giving the rock a slight glow.
- Gold of Mexico. The crystals are deep golden in color.
- Indian sun stone. It has an orange color with a pinkish-red tint. It is often compared to the sun at sunset.
- Oregon heliolite. Famous for transparency. There are red, green, and golden minerals.
- Tanzanian "confetti". Inside such minerals there are large sparkles of hematite.
Some sun stones have optical effects:
- Cat's eye. After cutting into a cabochon, a vertical luminous highlight appears on the stone, which changes its position when the gem is rotated.
- Asterism. The gem refracts light in such a way that the image of a star appears on it.
In the video, see what the processed stone looks like:
Description
Externally, tengizite is a glassy, fused agglomerate with numerous veins and inclusions.
The heterogeneity of the structure is natural:
Its color was deep, dark blue-greenish, layered blue or black with smooth transitions from one color to another. The veins and spots are brown or yellowish-green.
This is a great rarity in the mineral kingdom.
The light blue stones are similar to charoite.
Properties and uses of tanzanite
Tanzanite is used only in the jewelry industry. Gems are not sold as ornamental stones, so they cannot be found at a crafts fair.
Magicians and lithotherapists have found use for the stone. They claim its magical and healing properties.
Physicochemical characteristics
The formula of the stone is Ca2Al3(SiO4)(Si2O7)O(OH). This rock is of volcanic origin. Refers to zoisites. The composition contains inclusions of vanadium and chromium.
Tanzanite is a fairly fragile stone. On the mineralogical scale it is assigned 6.5–7 points. It is much less durable than sapphires and diamonds.
The stones are transparent and have a glassy sheen. They have a high refractive index. They have the ability to pleochroism.
Medicinal properties
Lithotherapists believe that the stone has a number of healing properties:
- Helps fight diseases and eye fatigue. To improve your vision and get rid of the feeling of sand in your eyes, you need to look at the gem for at least 15 minutes every day.
- Relieves nervous tension, eliminates headaches caused by overwork. To get rid of the problem, you need to place the stone in your palm and imagine how its energy permeates the body.
- Strengthening the immune system. During an epidemic of viral diseases, it is recommended to wear jewelry with tanzanite to reduce the likelihood of infection. It is recommended not to remove the crystal during the recovery period after illness.
- Relieves pain in muscles and joints. To do this, massage the problem area with the mineral.
- Removes blackheads, pimples, acne, and helps cope with other skin diseases. To do this, wash your face with tanzanite infusion in the morning and evening. To prepare it, place a nugget in a glass of clean water for 1 hour. Wearing jewelry with a gem will also help.
- Massaging your face with a stone will prolong your youth and get rid of wrinkles.
- A stone placed under your pillow will help you cope with insomnia and have a good rest.
The magical properties of tanzanite
Psychics believe that tanzanite has strong energy and mystical properties. Owners of such a talisman will be able to achieve their goals.

Tanzanite favors the name Galina. Girls with such a talisman will be able to meet their soulmate and get married successfully. The stone will give them wisdom, grace, prudence.
Varieties of mineral
The stone is instantly recognizable and difficult to counterfeit. The color of gemstones varies only in different shades, from green to silver-gray. There are olive, yellow-green and grassy stones with frosty pearl and silver patterns. Experts say that clinochlore is a mineral that, when polished, looks best in silver and bronze.
Geologists have discovered several varieties of seraphinite.
Kochubeit
Kochubeit contains 4-11% chlorine. The stone is named after Pyotr Kochubey, a famous Russian scientist. Kochubeite deposits are located in the Central Urals at the Karkadinsky mine. Due to the admixture of chlorine, the color is unusual for seraphinite, i.e. lilac-green.
Shades depend on lighting. In a room with fluorescent lamps, seraphinite plays with lilac tones. In sunlight it has a greenish tint.
Kemmererite
Kemmerite also has a high chromium content. Its color is deep purple. The stone is named after mining engineer Alexander Kemmerer.
Sheridanite
Another variety of seraphinite with a predominance of aluminum. The stone is named after the city of Sheridan (USA), where it was discovered. Sheridanite is characterized by grayish tones.
Leuchtenbergite
Iron content is minimal. Therefore, the stone has a light green color with a yellow undertone. Geologists have also found white specimens.
The mineral was named after the 19th century mining engineer Maximilian of Leuchtenberg.
Healing properties of the stone
The fact that howlite is very beneficial for health is recognized by all doctors, including supporters of only traditional treatment. After all, the mineral contains calcium. It provides howlite with certain physical properties and is important for the formation of bones. If you wear an unpainted stone for fractures, dislocations, or cracked bones, they will heal faster.
Lithotherapists also name other useful features of howlite:
- The gem will help pregnant women get rid of toxicosis, mood swings, and attacks of eclampsia. Thanks to him, you will be able to safely carry and give birth to a healthy baby.
- If you wear the stone during flu epidemics, it will increase your immunity. It will be easier for people who have already “caught” ARVI or another cold to recover. To do this, it is advisable to wear howlite in the form of a pendant or beads.
- The mineral is able to strengthen the walls of blood vessels. It also reduces the risk of complications from coronary heart disease, hypertension, heart attacks and strokes.
A howlite talisman will help young children grow strong and healthy.
When painted, the stone loses its energy and becomes useless. A gem painted with turquoise or coral is simply a beautiful decoration. If you plan to use howlite for treatment, only natural, unprocessed mineral will suit you.
Masseurs also love howlite. A soft and warm pebble helps relax muscles, warms up the body and prepares it for therapeutic effects. The stone is especially good for the following types of massage:
- Anticellulite massage. The gem effectively removes the notorious “orange peel” from the thighs and buttocks.
- Anti-varicose. Howlit helps to first slow down the development of the disease, and then completely stop it. The stone also promotes the healing of trophic ulcers and reduces spider veins.
- Massage for atherosclerosis. Howlite effectively removes blockages in blood vessels, lowers blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
- Antirheumatic. The mineral reduces swelling and reduces the intensity of joint inflammation. In the future, it eliminates pain and stiffness of movement.
Legends of Seraphinite
A beautiful legend is associated with the appearance of seraphinite. It is believed that the angel Seraphim flew over the earth and dropped the feathers from his wings. They turned into beautiful green stones.
There is another legend associated with Seraphim. The angel heard the story of the abandoned girl and cried about the injustice in the world. The great tears turned into greenish crystals of enchanting beauty.
History and origin
The discovery of the gem fell during the reign of Catherine II. The Empress was actively involved in the development of the Ural Mountains. Under her leadership, numerous mineralogical expeditions were organized, each of which was marked by new interesting finds.
Mineral – Perelivt
Overlivt was discovered in 1797 by Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vasilyevich Razderishin. This man served as a court adviser to the ruler, as well as the head of the Commission for the discovery of stones and other rarities. In addition, the lieutenant colonel was known as a desperate lover of minerals.
A little later, a description of the new nugget appeared in the catalog of Razderishin’s personal collection of minerals. The discoverer describes the find as droplet chalcedony with a white, green and red surface, found two miles from the village of Tatar settlers Shaitanka. The source also mentions that the gem placer was discovered by Bergmeister back in 1791, and the find of 1797 is a primary deposit, which was explored and developed only in 1960.
The first name of the gem was “Ural agate”. The famous academician Alexander Evgenievich Fersman classified the mineral as chalcedony agate. The nugget was considered such until 1985. After research by scientists from the Leningrad Mining Institute D. P. Grigoriev and T. A. Glazova, a new mineral was born - overflow. The name successfully reflects the appearance of the stone - multi-colored layers, combined with a silky shine, softly shimmer from one to another.
Pendant
The origin of the overflow is hydrothermal. The cracks in the earth's crust were gradually filled with hot hydrothermal solutions, forming heterogeneous quartz aggregates. Subsequently, iron hydroxides, platelets of the mineral dickite, and small sulfide crystals were deposited on the surface of these aggregates.
Today the mineral is known under the name “Shaitan overflow”, named after the place of its first discovery. There are also Makarov and Zot overflows, differing only in the names of the places in the Ural region where they were found.
Tengizite, obsidian, shaitanite
Some believe that the mineral tengisite is a type of obsidian. However, these are different stones in their origin, external and internal parameters. Obsidian, which is born from volcanoes, is black, and tengizite is almost always blue.
Tengizite is confused with shaitanite. This is a mineral found in the Urals. Their appearance and structure are almost identical. Nothing is known about the origin of the stone from the Urals. But the name “Shaitanite” speaks for itself: in Islamic theology, Shaitan is a spirit hostile to Allah and man.
About jewelry with pyrope stone
Small crystals are often cut into cabochons - round inserts with a hemispherical surface. Sometimes they also make plates with a flat top edge: these are often included in men's jewelry. When cutting dark-colored varieties, the technique of reducing the thickness of the insert in the central part is often used. To do this, the master selects a part of the crystal body from the inside out. For even better transmission of light, a mirror metal plate is placed under the insert. Light varieties are sometimes cut like rubies. Beads may contain naturally shaped stones with highly smoothed edges.

Cost and recommendations for purchasing jewelry with pyrope
Modern products have a relatively low cost due to the use of not very valuable small pyropes. If the product does not include more expensive inserts, then its average price can range from $50-250. At the same time, 1 carat of the mineral costs $5-30, depending on the purity of color and coloring characteristics.
Antique items can be purchased at auctions, and their value is determined depending on demand. But most historically valuable items are kept in museums.
You should only buy products with pyropes in specialized stores. To avoid purchasing a fake, it is recommended to ask for a certificate or sales receipt for the insert.
How to wear and care?
If a product made from pyropes is worn for medicinal or magical purposes, it is better to ensure contact of the crystal with the skin of the owner. The best choice for women would be a necklace or bracelet, a pendant without a frame or with a minimum of metal. Direct contact will ensure stronger interaction of the stone with the owner’s biofield. Men can buy a bracelet made from pyrope grains or include them in products that are often held in their hands (for example, a keychain). Rings with a window frame under the crystal are also suitable.
When worn, dust accumulates on the surface of the stone. You can remove dirt with a soft cloth by wiping each grain. You can also wash the stones with warm soapy water 1-2 times a year. After this, they are rinsed under a stream of clean tap water.
So, we found out that pyrope stone can not only emphasize the beauty of women, but also empower men
According to the horoscope, the mineral is close to fiery Leo, Aries and Sagittarius, but caution should be exercised when using the gem for water signs: Cancer, Pisces and Scorpio. However, if you have become attached to the product, and you are a kind person or try to be one, then wear pyrope for your health!
Where is the gem used?
Tengizite is classified as a class II gemstone. But it is so beautiful and rare that only jewelers, decorators and collectors get it.
Jewelry
This mineral is easy to work with. We are fascinated by its intense brilliance, inner radiance and glow emanating from the depths of the stone:
Ring with tengizite
A bright pebble, suitable even for a child. Darker pieces will add charm to a mature lady. A black stone in a ring or wedding ring is an attribute of masculinity.
Decor
Decorative grade gemstones are used for decoration. We produce candlesticks, photo frames, dishes, dishes and boxes.
Crushed stone is used for painting, and large opaque agglomerates are used for figurines and sculptures.
Collecting
Mineralogists became interested in pebbles. The best samples were sent to the leading museums of the country (then the Soviet Union).
Some of them were left as souvenirs by event participants and local residents.
Today, every genuine Tengizit is a joy for a collector. To avoid getting into trouble, you should buy it in Kazakhstan or from a reliable person.
History and origin
The unknown gem, which emerged from the Cape of Good Hope in the mid-18th century, immediately became recognized as a rare mineral. Gradually, prehnite was discovered in other mineral deposits.
There are quite a lot of countries with crystal mining sites:
- Territories of Germany and France;
- Australian continent;
- Austria;
- China;
- Scottish and American deposits.
The names of the mineral around the world do not agree on one thing. In Asian countries, the crystal is known as grape jade. In the southern African continent, the Cape emerald.
Other names known to mineralogists:
- edel (edelite);
- chiltonite;
- adil (adilite).
physical characteristics
Drop emerald is found in natural deposits; kidney-shaped fragments are found. They are dense and crystalline. The shape of the fossils is short columnar formations. Prehnite cannot be found in pure crystal form.
The composition is simple:
- luminosilicate;
- magnesium;
- calcium.
Formula Ca2Al(AlSi3O10)(OH)2. Hardness on the Mohs scale is 6 units. Pearlescent luster, close to glass glow.
The mineral is distinguished by its ability to glow with incredible brilliance in the sun's rays. Not resistant to high temperatures. When exposed to an open fire, the melting process begins. It is afraid of hydrochloric acid and begins to disintegrate.
According to transparency, the mineral is found in three types:
- Translucent;
- Translucent;
- Completely transparent is the rarest type of stone.
Place of Birth
Among the common mining sites, a large amount of stone is found, so it cannot be called rare. Under natural conditions, prehnite deposits are formed in conditions of hydrothermal, igneous rocks. The crystal is filled with voids and cracks.
Special distinctive specimens are found in different deposits.
Russian deposits:
- Spherical crystal forms;
- Compounds of prehnite with apophrinites;
- Samples of natural green color.
Prices for dianite products
Gem quality dianites are very rare and therefore expensive stones. For example, a dianite ball 50 mm in diameter is valued at $800. With a diameter of 130 mm, the estimated cost of such a ball increases to $1,500. An 11-carat dianite cabochon costs about $25.
Checking kyanite for authenticity
Only a real mineral can serve as a real talisman.
To avoid falling for the tricks of scammers, carefully examine the stone that you are offered to purchase; the unique properties of the rock are almost impossible to fake. For example, natural kyanites are not uniform. There are almost always adhesions in the middle of such crystals. If you look at the light, the rays begin to refract at them, and it seems as if several bright sparks are burning in the middle of the mineral.
If you have a needle handy, carefully move it along the surface of the stone. Kyanite has "double hardness" like wood - another unique property
You will not be able to scratch the gem across the grain, but along it, on the contrary, you will leave a noticeable line.
They may try to pass off real kistene as a more expensive mineral - sapphire. To catch scammers, consider buying against a light or a magnifying glass. Kyanite has a striped structure, while yakhont has a plate-like structure, similar to fish scales.
How to wear and care
The delicacy of color makes the mineral unobtrusive. Therefore, you can safely wear a full set of jewelry with large inserts. Exclusive accessories with tengizite are suitable for office style, and will also perfectly complement an outfit for a social event.
Minimal stone care:
- Store separately in a box with soft sides.
- Protect from mechanical influences (shocks, falls).
- Do not expose to prolonged exposure to moisture or sunlight.
To clean the nugget, use a warm soapy solution, no chemicals. You can dry it with a soft cloth.
Astrological compatibility
Stargazers are inclined to believe that zoisite affects each of the zodiac signs differently. For some, the mineral will be an ideal talisman, but for others, the nugget is contraindicated unless combined with other minerals. Zahualpite promises certain changes for each sign:
- For Aquarius, zoisite is an ideal talisman, but only for the fair sex. Aquarius women who strive to reach the top will gain the necessary confidence, attractiveness, and prudence.
- Gemini will attract the necessary acquaintances using zoisite. For women who have problems conceiving, the stone will give them their first child. Men will become more successful in building strong family relationships. The gem is useful for Geminis suffering from alcohol addiction.
- Aries will be able to moderate their emotional fervor, become wiser and more positive. Natural egoism will move aside, giving way to responsiveness and stability.
- For Cancers, zoisite is a stone of harmony, peace of mind, bringing a person mutual understanding and success in all areas of life.
- For active and purposeful Taurus, the talisman promises activation of the best qualities of their character. The mineral literally educates the representatives of this constellation, making Taurus more hardworking and practical. This helps to achieve success in all endeavors.
- Leos are often guided by emotions when making important life decisions. Zoisite will tame the impulsiveness of Leo, thanks to which people of this sign will become rational, hardworking, more dynamic and less proud.
- Scorpios, who live by emotions and experiences, need zoisite to restore mental balance. This will help you find mutual understanding with the world around you.
- Pisces are often unsure of themselves, which prevents them from going ahead towards their own goals. Zahualpit can solve this problem. For Pisces, this mineral is also a love talisman.
- For Sagittarius, the gem is a barrier from negativity, not only external (envy, black magic), but also internal (bad thoughts).
- Zoisite will help Capricorns protect themselves from actions that have unpleasant consequences, as well as gain financial independence.
- For Libra, the main goal is balance. Zoisite will help maintain balance, preventing one of the cups from falling to the negative side. In addition, Libra will develop a desire for knowledge and intuition will develop.
- Calm Virgos occasionally have outbursts of aggression, which zoisite can stop. This will help improve existing relationships, as well as successfully build new ones.
It is worth noting that the stone will not work independently for all signs. Aries, Leo and Sagittarius need to supplement zoisite with the energy of other minerals - rock crystal, cat's or tiger's eye. In addition to this, skeptical Sagittarius will also need faith in the power of the stone, otherwise the talisman will not reveal its potential and will serve only as a decoration.

Healing and magical properties
Tengizite is too young a stone, so this unusual mineral is only being studied in the world of lithotherapy. Nothing is known about the use of the nugget in the treatment of any diseases.
Esotericists in this matter have not advanced much further than stone healing specialists. It is only known that the nugget sympathizes with people with a strong-willed character, decisive and purposeful individuals.
Superstitious people try to stay away from the stone, as they consider it a carrier of negative energy due to the disaster that happened. Admirers of Tengizit refute such prejudices. Those who are more familiar with the mineral claim that it helps expand consciousness on a global level. The talisman gives the powerful energy of the Earth to those who take care of themselves as a significant part of an infinitely large world
A person who understands the importance of comprehensive love and worries about the future of our planet will certainly find contact with Tengizit. But this connection will be interrupted when the internal state of the owner of the gem switches to another wave
How to spot a fake
Despite its low cost, tengizite is imitated in several ways:
- Fused glass. You can distinguish a natural mineral from such a fake by the randomness of the arrangement of inclusions and their diversity.
- Shaitanite. This is a Ural natural gem, very similar to tengizite, but has a different origin, is not that rare and is cheaper. The tag, which often states “Tengizite/Shaitanit” and also contains information about the deposit of the stone, will help you clarify which mineral the seller is offering. If it is written “Ural, Shaitanka River” - this is Shaitanite. Tengizite is mined in only one deposit - Tengiz, Kazakhstan.
- Heat treated ore. Such a fake is visually difficult to recognize. Creating an imitation involves separating ore from metal, the product of which is slag colored with impurities, which looks like a unique gem.
