Overcome-grass - the meaning of the Slavic amulet for men and women

In Rus', the Slavic amulet Odolen-grass was used to protect against diseases, unkind words and the evil eye. This is one of the most common talismans, which has been known to our ancestors since time immemorial. The symbol is considered feminine, but sometimes it was also used by men.

Unfortunately, we have not received accurate data about this plant. Historians believe that Odolen-grass could be called:

  • swimsuit;
  • St. John's wort;
  • spurge;
  • timothy grass;
  • blue cyanosis.

But people say that this is a white water lily. The medicinal and magical properties of this plant are mentioned in Slavic and many other cultures.

Myths about Odolen-grass

In Greek mythology there is a legend that during his wanderings the mighty Hercules (the son of the god Zeus, the hero of the epic who performed 12 labors) met a beautiful nymph. She fell in love with the hero, but he did not reciprocate her feelings. In grief, the girl threw herself into the stormy waters of the river and drowned. After her death, the shore was covered with white water lilies.

The Scandinavians believed that magical creatures lived in the buds of these flowers - elves, who came out only under the cover of darkness. In the epic of Ancient Rome there is mention of a beautiful white flower, with the help of which a monster lured a young beauty into his lair.

The Slavs believed that wreaths made from Odolen-grass were worn by the mythical inhabitants of lakes and swamps - Mavkas. The pagan goddess Kostroma is considered the first Mavka. She had a brother - the god Kupalo, who was kidnapped by the huge bird Sirin at a young age. He managed to escape from captivity and returned to his native land.

Kostroma by this time had become a beautiful young girl, but rejected all suitors for her hand. She said that the wreath would never fall from her head, hinting that she would not get married. The other gods became angry and tore it from Kostroma’s head. The wreath fell into the river, where Kupalo found it.

According to ancient tradition, he was supposed to marry the owner of the wreath. The young people did not know each other and tied themselves in sacred marriage. Only after this did the gods reveal to them a terrible secret. In despair, Kostroma threw herself into the water and was reborn into Mavka with a wreath of Overpowering grass on her head. Kupalo jumped into the fire and turned into the god of the Summer Sun, gaining power over the world on the longest day of the year.

For men

The overpowering grass was considered an exclusively female amulet ; men did not wear it. The male version of this amulet was the Fern Flower.

For women

Overcoming grass is primarily a female amulet. It is believed that it supports women's health and promotes the flourishing of feminine energy and strength. This amulet was worn by both young girls and married mature women:

  • Unmarried girls wore a talisman around their neck, this was due to the desire to quickly find a life partner.
  • Married women wanted to preserve the family hearth and happiness. It was for this purpose that they placed Shdolen-grass under the bed.

What does the Grass Overpower symbol look like?

The symbol is based on the intersection of two Kolovrat, one of which is directed along the movement of the sun, and the other against it. There are 12 (sometimes the number changes) rays diverging from the center of the symbol.

Visually, the symbol of Odolen-grass resembles the sign of a fern, which is attributed to the god Kupalo. The energies of these symbols are opposite, they personify fire and water, the feminine and masculine, so the rays in the signs are directed in different directions.

Description and appearance

This sign is drawn as a combined double Kolovrat. When examining it, you can find 2 intersecting symbols of fire, one of which is oriented in the direction of rotation of the sun, and the other in the opposite direction. This image of the symbol is considered traditional.

Runes and a celestial body were depicted around the amulet.

The talisman was made from the following materials:

  • wood (birch, oak, ash, viburnum);
  • metal (tin, silver, copper, bronze, gold);
  • fabric (curtains, bed linen, etc.).

This design was applied both to the walls of the house and to the dishes.

The meaning of the Overcome-grass amulet for women

The talisman protects the owner from any bad weather and evil: harmful energy effects, damage and the evil eye, illnesses, money problems and family troubles. A woman who regularly wears the Overpowering Grass amulet endures pregnancy and childbirth more easily, gets sick less, and goes through difficult periods more easily.

The amulet as a whole has a positive effect on the fair sex, giving strength to overcome poverty, find your purpose and become truly happy. The talisman helps the girl find her betrothed and create a strong family with him.

For a married woman, the amulet is a source of energy necessary to maintain the warmth of the hearth and comfort in the house. The house of such a housewife will always be clean, dinner will be prepared, and the children will be well-groomed and obedient. The amulet helps preserve love and passion in marriage, so your relationship with your husband will also be at its best.

Activation and spell of the talisman

When making a talisman, the master must read a special spell to activate it. It is at the moment of creation that the greatest release of energy occurs, since the amulet only appears in the world. Therefore, when working, you need to visualize powerful, charged scenes: bright sunlight emanating from the amulet, a large burning fire with bright sparks. This way the talisman will be filled with living energy and will work better for the benefit of its owner.

While working, a person must read the following plot:

“I’m walking through an open field, I see Odolen-grass growing in an open field. Oh, wonderful flower, you know, you were not created by my hands, I did not invent your appearance. You were born from damp earth, winds and streams took care of you. You have grown up strong and strong, so help me with your accurate skills. Defeat evil people, so that they do not gossip, do not slander, and do not bring filth into my house. Overcome high rapids, difficult roads, steep banks and dark forests. Help me walk your path without losses or obstacles. I will hold you close to my heart, while my feet walk, while my heart beats, while my song sounds, I will never turn back.”

The conspiracy should be pronounced firmly and with conviction. Then the amulet can really be saturated with your strength in order to subsequently help in business and protect from adversity. The same plot should be read on an amulet purchased or given as a gift, but only after it has been cleaned and activated.

To clean, the item should be rinsed in running water or placed overnight, completely filling the container with salt. Activation is done on any sunny day between the spring and autumn equinox. You need to place the item outside in a place where the sun's rays fall most of the day. Nearby is a transparent bowl of water. This way the amulet will simultaneously be charged with the power of the water element, air and sun. The amulet is placed at sunrise; you need to pick it up before the sun disappears below the horizon. After this, Odolen-grass can be used immediately.

Overcome-herb amulet for men

The amulet carries feminine energy, but it is often used by men. In ancient times, girls carefully made a talisman and gave it to their lovers before a long journey, a dangerous hunt or a military campaign.

Wise Slavic women knew very well that the Odolen-grass amulet would protect not only from the evil eye or damage, but also from love spells. A man who wears a talisman will receive:

  1. Spiritual strength to overcome life's difficulties.
  2. Protection from illnesses and assistance in the treatment of existing diseases.
  3. A spiritual guide that helps you make the right decisions and not get lost on the path to your goal.
  4. Clearing the mind of any negativity and destructive thinking.
  5. Reliable protection against all types of dark magic.

Men are not recommended to use the talisman all the time, since it still gravitates more toward the female sex. It is better to keep it with you during difficult periods of life or during important events for 1-2 days. For regular wear, men are better suited to the mirror image of the Overcome-grass sign - a symbol of the color of fern.

History, origin of the amulet

No one can say when the tradition of wearing the Overpowering Grass amulet began. The name is found in Russian fairy tales and legends.

Overcome-grass

There is the first option, that by this name they mean a set of medicinal herbs: St. John's wort, blue cyanosis, spurge, bathwort, timothy. According to popular predictions, these plants are given into the hands of only those who are pure in soul and thought. But if a person is evil, harmful, and has bad intentions, then you will never find medicinal herbs for him.

There is another option that the Overpowering Grass is a white water lily that adorns blue lakes.
Our ancestors were sure that the white water lily contained a magical power that would cure diseases, save from all evil spirits, protect a traveler on the road from troubles, and protect a warrior from wounds. Slavic magicians use the image of a water lily as a talisman. Attention! The name of the talisman comes from the word “overcome,” which means victory over illness, illness, enemy and black witchcraft.
The white water lily is known not only to the Slavs, but also to the Celts, Germans and ancient Greeks.

In ancient Greek mythology, there is a legend about a nymph who fell deeply in love with the famous hero Hercules. The love turned out to be unrequited, so the nymph suffered greatly and cried a lot. A lake was formed from her tears, and she herself turned into a water lily. In Greece, this flower is a symbol of innocent girlish beauty.

There is a similar legend in German folklore. We are talking about a beauty and a courageous knight. The warrior rejected the love of the forest girl, and she fell into despair. Out of grief she turned into a lake flower.

In Ireland, the water lily is considered the habitat of elves. When evening comes, these fairy-tale creatures flock to the flowers and have fun.

Slavic legends say that a mermaid hides under the guise of a water lily during the day. At night, the flower sinks to the bottom and there turns into a girl with a fish tail. Once a year, at the beginning of summer, the mermaids turn into beautiful girls and play on the shore. If a person sees mermaids, then the river inhabitants will drag him along with them to their kingdom.

How to wear the Odolen-grass amulet correctly

Traditionally, the talisman is worn as a pendant or pendant around the neck. The amulet should not be seen by other people, so it is better to hide it under clothes. You can hang it on wrist bracelets or wear it in a secret or inner pocket of your clothing.

You should not always keep the amulet with you. It performs a protective function and supports the owner, but with constant use it can have a negative impact. It is better to keep the talisman at home in a separate box or bag, and take it with you only in case of danger or difficulties.

The Odolen-grass symbol is often placed in children's rooms. No one except the mother can touch such amulets. At the same time, the woman must be positive so that the amulet does not transfer negative energy to the baby.

The meaning of the amulet

Overcome the grass is a talisman that everyone has heard at least something about. His memory has reached the 21st century thanks to his strength. This amulet can help both men and women.

Its main meaning is protection from dark forces. And since diseases are their machinations, the amulet is also a protector of health. The amulet provides the missing vital energy at the most needed moment. At the same time, it “cleanses” and removes all negative energy from the mind, body and soul of a person.

This powerful sign can only be used in cases of truly urgent need, since frequent wearing of the symbol could arouse the attention of dark forces. For example, they did not practice painting images on rings and bracelets. Overcoming grass was depicted with embroidery on the sheets and blankets of small children; clothes with embroidery and amulets were put on seriously ill people, and given to those who were in danger.

The meaning could change according to what it was drawn on:

  • Household utensils - protection against poisoning, exposure to poisons
  • On armor - enhanced the warrior’s defense
  • On the sword - helped to defeat an opponent, to fight with dignity
  • On walls, doors, under the ceiling - protection from evil eyes, love spells and other dark influences.

Is it possible to make the Overpowering Grass amulet yourself?

There are no prohibitions on making your own amulet. If you plan to make a pendant, it is better to use the following materials:

  • gold;
  • copper;
  • silver;
  • bronze;
  • wood;
  • genuine leather.

Wool and linen threads are suitable for embroidering a symbol on a scarf, clothing or pillowcase. The best colors for an amulet are red, orange, light brown and gold. You can add some green threads to the embroidery, as well as images of blossoming flowers for a married woman or closed buds for a young girl.

Do-it-yourself protective doll

You can not only purchase a protective doll in a specialized store, but also make it yourself. Such an amulet will be stronger and more effective.

Protective doll

The Oberezhnaya doll is a motanka doll, but its main difference is the symbol of the Overcome Grass, which was depicted on her apron.

Another option is to hang a pendant with the image of this symbol around her neck or attach it to her belt with a thread. In this case, the thread must be red or green (red symbolizes the sun, green - fertility, spring, healing).

The embroidery of the symbol on the apron is also done with red or green threads. The apron itself was made of green fabric and a white canvas was applied to it. Such a doll was decorated with stylized flowers, medicinal herbs (dried), etc. to enhance the magical effect.

In addition, such a doll should have long and thick hair made of thick threads, braided into 2 braids.

Under no circumstances should you paint her face, because there is a belief that evil spirits can enter a doll with a painted face and harm the residents of the house.

Embroidery

Only those people who were directly related to magic could embroider this symbol. However, they did not apply the design to clothes for daily wear. Most often, protective belts were embroidered.

For women, the amulet was embroidered as follows:

  • for unmarried women - closed rosebuds;
  • for married people - blooming flowers.

In addition, embroidery was done on bed linen, towels and curtains (see diagrams).

How to cast the Overpowering Grass amulet

The first step is to carry out a ritual of cleaning the talisman if it was purchased for money. The fact is that the symbol belongs to the water element, so it can absorb negative energy.

To clean the amulet you need:

  1. Set yourself up for positive emotions.
  2. Rinse the amulet under running water.
  3. Leave it in the sun for a few minutes until it dries.

This way the amulet will be cleansed of any negative influence and absorb the power of two elements: water and fire. If it was made independently, received from a loved one, then a cleansing ritual is not required.

Conspiracy according to Slavic custom

Our ancestors lived in harmony with nature, so they believed that any talismans and amulets should have the powers of all natural elements. To cast the Overpowering Grass amulet, you must do the following:

  1. Choose a sunny day (no matter winter or summer).
  2. Go out of town, preferably not to the country, but away from houses and buildings.
  3. Hang the amulet on a chain or rope, and then lower it into a river, stream or lake, mentally imagining how it is filled with the energy of the water.
  4. After a few minutes, place it on the stones to charge the amulet with the power of the earth.
  5. Then raise the amulet so that the sun's rays fall on it to charge it with fire energy.
  6. Leave it in the wind for a while so that the talisman receives air energy.

At the same time, you can say to yourself or out loud your desires and goals, to achieve which you need an amulet, but this is not necessary. The main thing is to think about something good.

Proper wearing of the talisman

To give the amulet the necessary magical properties, it is important to choose it correctly. The most popular options include body amulets. Most often they are made of metals. Silver and gold jewelry have the most powerful effects. You can also purchase products made of titanium, bronze or alloys.

In addition, amulets are often made of leather and wood. They can also be combined. Precious or semi-precious stones are used as additions to the base material.

Often the overpowering grass was used in the form of embroidery. Since ancient times, such symbolism has been used to decorate children's clothes and bedding.

Today it is often found on the clothes of young people. At the same time, there are many patterns that allow you to embroider this talisman yourself.

The symbol was often used in the form of embroidery.

The amulet can be used to protect your home. In this case, it is recommended to make a doll. At the same time, it will protect not only the premises itself, but also all the people living there. In addition, such a doll is often made for use in magical rites and rituals.

The golden amulet with the image of the Overcoming Grass is highly effective. The fact is that this metal is in tune with the Sun, and the amulet belongs to the solar signs. Thanks to its combination with gold, it will be possible to double the magical power.

Is it possible to use the Odolen-grass talisman with a cross?

The Orthodox cross and Slavic amulets carry the same energy. They protect owners from evil and help in difficult situations, so you can use these signs at the same time.

  1. Wait until evening time.
  2. Seclude yourself in a room.
  3. Light three candles and place them on the table.
  4. Place the amulet in the center between them.
  5. Close your eyes and mentally read the prayer three times.

Varieties of sign

The grass fern has a paired counterpart called the fern flower. This division is due to the fact that the Grass Amulet was intended to protect women, home, and offspring. A man could resort to the healing properties of the amulet only during a serious illness. Another plant amulet was intended for the stronger sex - fern. It is also called Perunov's flower, since the magical plant corresponds to the thunder god in the Slavic pantheon. The purpose of the Fern Flower is to heal the consciousness and soul.

Both amulets are similar to each other, being a mirror image of each other.

In addition, Odolen-grass helps in the treatment of bodily symptoms and the removal of magical effects. Fern gives determination, generating militant energy for active action.

Is it possible to give and receive the Overpowering Grass amulet as a gift?

The greatest power is possessed by talismans that were made by loved ones, for example, mothers, sisters, grandmothers. As for wives, the product will only carry power if it was not made during a quarrel.

The amulet must be filled with light energy, otherwise it will remain a useless decoration or even cause harm. A properly cleaned and charged amulet can and should be given to loved ones.

It is recommended to accept the Odolen-grass talisman as a gift only from family members. In all other cases, it is necessary to carry out a cleansing ceremony. It is strictly prohibited to use planted or accidentally found symbols.

Odolen-grass is one of the most famous and powerful sacred objects in Slavic culture. It helps to get rid of illnesses, sorrows, unhappiness and poverty. It is enough to use the amulet correctly, and it will become a faithful protector and helper throughout your life.

Making a talisman with your own hands

Esotericists advise making such a talisman with your own hands, since its effect will be the most powerful. The image of the amulet is carved on wood, rings, coins, embroidered on fabric, etc.

If it is not possible to make such a talisman yourself, then take a ready-made color image, cut it into a circle shape and fill it with wax.

However, talismans made with one's own hands have great power. In addition, they merge with the energy of their owner and do not need to be cleansed.

To make a talisman from wood, you will need to take a small round cut of wood, sand it, and then draw a sacred sign on it. You can cut it out or leave it as a design. This amulet is worn on a long chain or thread under clothing.

The basis for the amulet is also the fabric on which embroidery is made.

Who is the amulet suitable for?

The ancient Slavic talisman is not recommended for everyone to wear, but there is a category of people for whom the amulet will best demonstrate its magical and healing properties:

  • drivers and lovers of long distances will be protected from misfortunes during a long journey;
  • The amulet gives military personnel and people engaged in hard work stamina and the necessary strength;
  • the talisman will be an excellent gift for newlyweds, it will strengthen their marriage bonds;
  • The amulet is most suitable for children, girls and women; in some cases, the attribute can also protect representatives of the stronger sex.

The talisman must also be worn by people who are in poor health or often feel unwell.

Tattoo amulets: main warnings

When choosing a protective tattoo, you need to carefully consider the rules. Most often, it is customary to make such tattoos small, in areas hidden from prying eyes (on the back and chest). But the ligature in the form of a bracelet is traditionally placed on the wrists or ankles. But, of course, the choice of location and size of the amulet depends on the person. Although you shouldn’t play too much - you can “overdo it”: many signs at once or changes in established symbols will bring an unpredictable result.

We advise you to choose the amulet whose strength is needed most in a particular period: a four-leaf clover for good luck or the Scandinavian rune Eyvaz for protection from negative energy. If the constant influence of the symbol is undesirable, make a drawing with henna - it will disappear on its own within a month. If necessary, the drawing is updated or, on the contrary, washed off early if the effect is achieved or is not suitable.
