Buccellati Jewelry
Buccellati
Buccellati, one of Italy's oldest houses, has a long history of creating statement jewelry. Inspired by Renaissance techniques and the luxurious textures of satin and Venetian lace, Buccellati's creations certainly stand out from the crowd. The instantly recognizable yellow gold Opera bracelets, studded with round diamonds, are designed for special occasions and celebrations. They will be a great addition to any jewelry collection.
Buccellati was founded in Milan in 1919. One of her stores is considered the first jewelry boutique in Piazza Largo Santa Margherita. Soon after its opening, Buccellati opened stores throughout Italy, incl. in Rome and Florence.
The House of Buccellati was awarded by Pope Pius XII in 1949. After centuries of hostility between the Roman Catholic and Anglican churches, the British royal family (its representative, Princess Margaret, to be precise) paid an official visit to the Vatican and Pope Pius XII. To commemorate this historical event, Buccellati designed a portrait of the Madonna inlaid with silver and rubies for Pope Pius XII to give to Princess Margaret.
Modern trends in jewelry fashion
With the advent of the third millennium, such trends in jewelry fashion as minimalism and environmentalism, which were generally characteristic of the fashion of the 90s, are moving aside, giving way to splendor. But without the excessive luxury that characterized the 80s of the last century. The new charm contains more harmony, touches both the senses and the intellect, and unites East and West. Yellow gold, large volumes and multi-colored stones are returning. Well-known brands from the fashion world continue to enter the jewelry world, contributing to the creation of new collections and increasing interest in jewelry marked by famous names. This movement, which began in the mid-90s, was continued by brands such as Gucci and Armani, among others. Message decorations with their own symbolism are also becoming popular, the ancestor of which can be considered the Dodo di Pomellato.

If you're looking for the most modern approach to holiday decorations, then Delfina Delettrez is the name you need to know. Designer Delfina Delettrez Fendi comes from one of the most famous families in Italian fashion. But instead of running the family business, in 2007 she founded her own eponymous brand. The AW17 collection aims to combine tradition with innovation, using vibrant stones without a classic setting. So, take a look at this Italian jewelry brand.
Damiani
Damiani is an Italian brand of silver and gold jewelry. Began in 1924 as a small family business headed by Enrico Grassi Damiani, which specialized in diamond jewelry. His ornate designs quickly became a favorite among the Italian elite and noble families, and the pieces became increasingly famous throughout Italy.
Today Damiani is a leading brand in the Italian jewelry market, awarded a record 18 Diamonds International Awards. And even though it has become a publicly traded brand on the Italian stock exchange, it continues the tradition of a family business, led by the third generation of the Damiani family. The collections are still handcrafted in Italy, and Damiani considers himself an "ambassador of Italian style throughout the world."
Walesa and Vicenzo Melchiore
The small Piedmontese town of Valence (with a population of only 20 thousand people) has also become famous for its jewelry art - thanks to the centuries-old traditions of master jewelers who pass on their secrets of working with jewelry from generation to generation. But the particularly rapid development of jewelry here began at the end of the 19th century, primarily through the efforts of the jeweler and entrepreneur Vicenzo Melchiore (1845-1925), who first established the industrial production of jewelry. For this, he is rightly considered the father of jewelry - both Valentian and Italian in general.

Having worked for more than 11 years in various high jewelry ateliers in Turin, Paris and Florence, in 1873 he founded his own company, Melchiorre & C. And in 1911, his company in Valence already had 86 jewelry workers and was considered one of the most important jewelry manufactories in Italy at that time. Together with his wife and six children, Vincenzo successfully managed the family business, while at the same time giving the jewelry business a new direction: production of products aimed at the middle class, a variety of new products that meet international fashion trends, and careful design of jewelry. The Melchiore manufactory, in addition to defining the distinctive features of Walesa's jewelry products, also became a school for subsequent generations of Valencian jewelers. Since the 80s of the 19th century, the Melchiore company already has its sales representatives in Latin America, Turkey, Egypt, Malta and Germany. In 1916, in order to further expand the market, Melchiore issued a postal catalog of his products in Italian, French, Spanish and English. For his significant contribution to the development of national jewelry production, on the day of the fortieth anniversary of his activity, Vincenzo Melchiore was awarded the Order of Merit.
Roberto Coin
Founded in Vicenza, Italy in 1977, Roberto Coin is a relative newcomer to this list with other Italian jewelry brands offering gold and silver items. When the brand was officially launched in 1996, Roberto Coin used a unique signature: a small ruby. This hidden gemstone, located inside each piece, was part of the ancient belief that wearing a ruby promoted long life, health and happiness.
Roberto Coin releases more than 600 new designs of various jewelry every year.
Prototypes of modern jewelry
It is curious that about three thousand years ago on this same Tuscan land, jewelry art was already significantly developed. In those distant times, the Etruscans lived here, who knew a lot about luxurious jewelry. Based on the excavations of Cerveteri, Palestrina, Pontecagnano, Vetulonia and the burials of noble representatives of this ancient people discovered there, dating back to the 9th - 7th centuries BC, we can conclude that demonstrating one’s own wealth to others was common among the Etruscan nobility, and it manifested itself in wearing a large number of different jewelry. The Etruscans adopted gold processing techniques partly from the eastern countries with which they traded, partly from the Phoenicians and Greeks, as well as from the Greek colonies, of which there were many at that time in the vicinity of Naples. Despite their passion for gold products, the Etruscans never had their own natural reserves of this noble metal.

During this period, the technique of making gold jewelry reaches its maximum sophistication and sophistication; Etruscan artisans adopted from the Eastern world the granulation technique (already mastered by the Egyptians and Mycenaeans by that time), which consists of welding the smallest granules of gold to a thin plate and thus creating the desired design.
A little later, gold jewelry began to be used not only to demonstrate one’s own wealth, but also as signs of religious, political, and social differences.
By the way, some modern jewelry factories in Tuscany (such as “Trilli” from Grosseto), inspired by the unique products of their distant ancestors, have developed a fashionable “Etruscan” line, not only recreating the design, but also using the unique techniques of this ancient people.

Who would have thought that several centuries ago here, on Ponte Vecchio, there were not jewelry shops at all, but... butchers. This, however, did not please the Archduke Ferdinando I of Tuscany, who in 1593 ordered the removal of all the butcher shops from the bridge, the smells of which penetrated the windows of the suspended corridor above them, and in their place he ordered the opening of more noble jewelry workshops.
