Dolomite is the most common stone on the planet, although its origin is still unclear. It combines practicality and beauty, attracts happiness and good luck. A mineral can serve not only as a decoration for a collection of minerals, a piece of jewelry, or a talisman. It is also capable of demonstrating its healing properties. Due to its valuable composition, dolomite becomes no less important in various industrial sectors and areas of production.

Mineral with unique properties

Dolomite stone: what is it?

The main parameters of dolomite should be described by its basic chemical formula - CaMg[CO3]2. In addition to the main components, the mineral contains manganese and iron. The share of these substances sometimes amounts to several percent. The stone has a rather attractive appearance. Its color is gray-yellowish, light brown, sometimes white.

The same name is used for sedimentary rock of the carbonate category that contains at least 95% of the main mineral. This rock was named after the French explorer Dolomieu, who was the first to describe this type of mineral.

It is worth noting that the concentration of calcium and magnesium oxides in dolomite formations may vary slightly. In some cases, chemical analysis may show minor contamination with zinc, cobalt and nickel. Only in Czech samples does their number reach a noticeable value. In isolated cases, bitumen and other foreign substances were found inside dolomite crystals.
