Is it possible to wear pearls today?
I categorize pearls as jewelry that grows up. As a stylist with almost 20 years of experience, through whose hands many thousands of wardrobes have gone through, I have a very good idea of my typical client, in the best sense of the word.
This is a girl who stands at a fork in the road: look like a girl, despite the numbers in her passport, or slide into the “ageless aunty” category.
Pearls, like many other attributes of a classic style, must be worn very carefully if you do not want to see the above-mentioned “auntie” in the mirror.
Because there is no ETERNAL classic to which many appeal, waving pearl beads and black little dresses with a colorful silk scarf.
Modern classics are a quality basic wardrobe with modern jewelry and accessories, not a Grandma Elizabeth suit with pearl studs.
Classic pearl jewelry is perfect for Queen Elizabeth. They are attached to her status and the difficult lifelong obligation to maintain a protocol dress code.
I don't mean to say that pearls are no longer worn - I want to emphasize that they should be from the 21st century.
In the photo below we see Angie wearing classic pearls. The additional age, solidity and severity of the image speak for themselves.
A formal suit in combination with this hairstyle and these very jewelry tell us that Jolie is attending an event that requires adherence to protocol clothing. As a rule, these are meetings with top officials of states.
Do you often meet with Putin? Then you need just these earrings and beads :)))
How to make pearls modern?
Maneuver number 1 - change the color of the pearls! Black, pink, multi-colored - not so respectable and grown-up anymore! But it’s very connected with the trend for such multi-colored colors - it’s not necessary once at a time :-(
Maneuver number 2 - take off your pearls and look 15 years younger :-)))
Maneuver number 3 - take modern pearl jewelry!
CONCLUSION: if protocol formalities have bypassed you, and you are not one of the thousands of magical fairies without age, for whom a white T-shirt, jeans and no makeup look better than Irina Shayk, think 100 times before wearing classic pearls.
You will look respectable and mature. Are you sure you want this?
Compare your impressions of the jewelry?
Nowadays there is a large number of modern jewelry that will make you look both young and modern without any effort.
But if you have an incredible love with pearls, then to brighten up the aging effect, burn it! I'll try to help as much as I can :-)

Characteristics of the stone
Pearls are a round, hard substance. It contains calcium carbonate and conchiolin. The stone has a pearlescent luster; the color depends on the mollusk’s habitat, its diet, chemical composition and water temperature.
The physical and chemical properties of pearls are presented in the table.
Chemical formula | CaCO3 |
Color | white, blue, yellow, pink, green, black |
Stroke color | white |
Transparency | opaque, translucent |
Shine | pearlescent, matte, silky |
Density | 2.6-2.78 g/cm³ |
Hardness (Mohs scale) | 3-4 |
Cleavage | absent |
Kink | uneven |
The properties of the stone surprise both astrologers and lithotherapists
HOW EXACTLY NOT TO WEAR PEARLS
DO NOT wear pearls as an accessory (earrings or beads).
DO NOT wear pearls with floral dresses or frilled skirts, shoes with round toes, shoes with bows or buckles, clothes with round or shawl collars, or clothes with polka dots. The more you “round it up”, the more mature you risk looking and ending up with #womanishstyle.
And most importantly, train your observation skills and learn to distinguish outdated jewelry designs from modern ones - this will save you a lot of money on shopping, and will also help you look expensive, stylish and high-status, even if your jewelry was inexpensive !
HOW TO WEAR PEARL JEWELRY STYLISHLY: PHOTO
Among the main trends of the last few years, one very interesting one has crept in - “new” pearls.
Pearls, in different forms, appeared not only on jewelry, but also complemented accessories, clothing and shoes. Remember how it all started with large hair clips, and then grew into a massive passion among designers for this material?
For a long time it was believed that pearls were jewelry for grown women, but 2022 has proven otherwise: Gigi Hadid wears a pearl necklace with a bright T-shirt (beware, this maneuver will not turn out as beautiful on everyone).
And there is a place for such jewelry in the men's wardrobe: Harry Styles and ASAP Rocky wear pearls in combination with a classic trouser suit and colorful shirts.
Traditionally, designers have used pearls to create stylish jewelry: here are chokers, classic necklaces, earrings, and pendants.
Pearl traditions
According to legend, mother of pearl embodies purity and innocence.
- in the East, during the wedding ceremony, the groom entangled the bride with beads so as not to run away;
- in medieval Europe, such products were the decoration of girls. The knights gave their hearts to the lady as proof of the seriousness of their intentions;
- Russian traditions have made these jewelry a wedding attribute since pre-Christian times. Lada, the patroness of love and family, was depicted with many pearl jewelry. In wealthy homes, the daughter received a pearl from birth on Angel's Day and Easter so that a thread would be collected for the wedding. The groom, wanting to show his “status,” presented the bride with white pearls, which she used to decorate the kokoshnik.
The Russian proverb “Large pearls with yakhont means a good bride and groom” defines the mineral as an indispensable attribute of a family hearth and a happy marriage.
PEARL JEWELRY
Pearls go perfectly with gold and also become part of layered looks. The main rule of this year is to wear such jewelry with things that contrast in style: leather, denim and bright prints. With something very casual and basic.
Baroque pearls are here to stay too! This season you can play with contrasts and choose very large jewelry made from this type of pearl.
Look how cool it looks!
Bags
This accessory will be the star of any look. Elegant miniature models are available both from luxury brands and in the mass market (Mango, Zara, ASOS).
The bags are made entirely of artificial pearls. Or pearls here become a fashionable accent, placed, for example, on a handle or chain, like Chanel’s.
Who is suitable according to the Zodiac
The native element of the mineral is water, it is in harmony with water signs.
- It will protect Pisces from impulsive actions and external negativity, develop intuition, and bring love.
- Cancers will put their emotions in order and find harmony.
- Black will make Scorpios optimistic.
Suitable for Gemini or Aquarius if worn infrequently. Troubles and ailments will be attracted to the earthly signs of the Zodiac Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn.
Fiery Aries or Leos should not wear pearls - the power of the patron Sun conflicts with their watery and lunar nature.
Cloth
In 2022, pearls became the star of Olivier Rousteing's debut couture collection for Balmain: every item on the catwalk became a kind of jewelry creation.
Balmain SS19 Paris Haute Couture
The trend quickly spread to the masses: the most popular item on the Internet was a crop top made entirely of faux pearls. It was worn over T-shirts and tops, and also combined with loose-fitting jackets and shirts.
Mining locations
Natural deposits of the mineral have been almost completely replaced by artificial farms.
- Saltwater pearls of natural origin are mined in large quantities in the Persian and Manara Gulfs, the Red Sea, and in the seas of Japan.
- The river mineral is mined in Russia, Germany, China, and the USA.
They first learned to grow marine specimens in 1915. Factories for the production of freshwater samples arose later.
Now the cultivated mineral is considered more popular than the natural one, while it retains its properties in full. Farms are intensively developing in Japan, China, Russia, and Vietnam.
Pearl deposits are under complete human control
